There are two ways to approach heating water using solar energy, one is actively heat water or passively heating water.
Active Heating includes a circulating pump and temperature control inside the solar hot water system, which heats water on sunny days.
The Passive System employs no moving parts, it heats water on sunny days and the solar heated water is used to maintain the reservoir in a conventional hot water heater.
